Terminal Issues With Hypercom

This is related to our recent EMV blog, and affects any merchant that is currently using a Hypercom (also known as Equinox) terminal at the point of sale. Dharma has been informed by each of our back-end processors to notify such merchants not to re-boot or re-start the terminal as doing so will immediately render it unable to process cards as well as lose any transactions that may have been run before settlement. Terminals can possibly be reprogrammed, but there are no guarantees and the process can be incredibly time consuming (many hours of on-hold time, as well as multiple download steps) due to the increased volume of reprogramming calls to the networks. In addition, these terminals will not be able to accept the new EMV chip cards, so upgrades will be required eventually anyway. If you’re currently utilizing a Hypercom/Equinox terminal, please do not restart the terminal, and visit our discounted equipment pricing page to select a new, EMV-ready terminal.
